Background:
The Ministry of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education has, effective January 2008, introduced a GATE Clearance Policy for students receiving tuition in GATE approved Private Tertiary Level Institutions (TLIs) with the objective of reducing detected abuses to the GATE programme, namely:

  • Students dropping out of programmes without valid reasons
  • Students repeatedly starting and dropping out of different programmes
  • Students switching programmes without prior approval or notification
  • Students repeating the same programmes at the TLIs
    Proceedure For Receiving GATE Clearance
Students wishing to access GATE funding in approved Private Institutions must complete a Request for GATE Clearance Form and receive the necessary approval via a GATE Clearance Letter prior to the completion of a GATE Application Form.
Request for Clearance Forms should to be submitted to the respective Private Tertiary Level Institution.

Accessing GATE Clearance Forms and Letters
Request for Clearance Forms are available at all approved Private Tertiary Level Institutions. Letters informing students of their GATE Clearance status will be returned to the Institutions. Only students who have received GATE Clearance will be eligible to apply for GATE Funding.

    Required Attachments
    New Students

1.Letter of Acceptance or Request for GATE Clearance Form stamped and signed by the local institution.

    Contunuing Students
1.Students continuing in the same programme must provide Grade Slips or Transcripts showing results from all their previous exam sittings.
2.Students who previously accessed GATE and are now moving on to a new programme must attach proof that they completed the previous GATE funded programme.

    Programme Administrator
    GATE Programme
Funding and Grants Administration Division (FGAD)

Withdrawal from a GATE Funded Programme
Any student withdrawing from a Programme for which they applied/received GATE funding must inform the institution as well as the Funding and Grants Administration Division in writing. Failure to do so can jeopardise eligibility to receive GATE funding for any future programme.
